MORE EFFORTS TO DELAY SKILL GAME CHANGES
The clock is ticking for Pennsylvania businesses operating skill game machines. Lawmakers and a business group are asking the state Supreme Court to delay enforcement, currently set to begin October 14th. State police have outlined plans for officers to test machines by inserting money, playing and attempting to cash out winnings. Machines found operating illegally could be seized, along with payout kiosks. There are 112 locations with skill games in Lycoming County alone. The Supreme Court has yet to rule on the requests for more time

Students at Schick Elementary School in Loyalsock Township have plenty to celebrate after their 18th annual Sock Walk brought in nearly 62-thousand dollars! That’s almost 17-thousand dollars more than their fundraising goal. The money will help fund field trips, playground equipment, library books and other enrichment programs for Schick Elementary students.

New details are emerging about the July death of an off-duty police officer during a family gathering in Lycoming County. Police say 44-year-old Michael McGeehan was allegedly strangled by a relative, 25-year-old Paden Frey of Cogan Station, at a hunting cabin near Waterville. Investigators say McGeehan was intoxicated, and family members were trying to restrain him when Frey allegedly pressed his forearm against McGeehan’s neck. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide. ANIMAL ABUSE REGISTRY UNDER CONSIDERATION
Pennsylvania could soon have a statewide animal abuser registry, similar to the sex offender registry under Megan’s Law. The state Senate has approved Aimee’s Law, requiring State Police to maintain a public database of people convicted of serious animal cruelty offenses. The bill is named for a six-month-old husky found abandoned beneath an Erie bridge in freezing temperatures. The puppy suffered severe frostbite and later died. Supporters say the registry would help prevent convicted abusers from obtaining more animals. The bill now heads to the state House

Known around the station as “Captain Abbott,” he was honored Saturday with an official citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The recognition came during a live-fire training exercise. Firefighters say Abbott proves you’re never too young to make a difference.
