DETAILS EMERGE ABOUT WILLIAMSPORT SHOOTING
A Williamsport man is facing attempted homicide charges following Monday’s shooting on Green Street, and investigators say surveillance video helped piece together what happened. Police say 22-year-old Christian Campbell shot another man after an argument, striking him multiple times in the legs. Officers initially found Campbell lying in the street claiming he had hit his head, but later determined he had faked the injury. Authorities say video shows Campbell firing several shots before placing the gun on his porch and lying down. The victim ran to a nearby home for help. Campbell is being held without bail and is due in court May 7.
SECOND TRIAL UNDERWAY FROM MURDER CASE IN 2016
A second trial is underway in Lycoming County for a man accused in a 2016 fatal shooting. Prosecutors say Dawud Rogers carried out the shooting as an act of revenge after an earlier altercation with the victim. They allege Rogers fired multiple shots at the man outside an auto repair shop before fleeing the scene. Defense attorneys argue there is no direct evidence tying Rogers to the shooting, pointing to questions about witness credibility. The first trial ended in a hung jury, and testimony is expected to continue this week.
JUDGE DENIES BLOCK OF SUBDIVISION PLAN
A Lycoming County judge has again ordered Muncy Township supervisors to sign off on a subdivision plan tied to a proposed Bass Pro Shops Outpost. Judge Eric Linhardt denied the township’s request to delay a previous court order requiring approval of the plan. The project developer says the signature is needed to move forward with combining parcels for the store and parking. Township leaders continue to resist, citing procedural concerns, while the case now heads to Commonwealth Court on appeal.
WEIS DONATES FUNDS FOR RIVER CLEAN UP
A Central Pennsylvania river cleanup effort is getting a boost from a local company. Weis Markets Charitable Foundation is donating $2,500 to Sunbury Revitalization Inc. to support cleanup work along the Susquehanna River. The funding is part of the foundation’s annual Earth Day giving, which totals $10,000 across four environmental projects. Officials say the donation will help protect local waterways and support ongoing conservation efforts. The company says investing in environmental stewardship is a key part of supporting the communities it serves.
DANVILLE MAN FACING CHARGES FOR NOT REGISTERING AS SEX OFFENDER
A Danville man is facing charges after police say he failed to comply with Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law. Authorities say 32-year-old Rusty Letkowski did not update his registration after being released from prison in 2023 and failed to report a new address in Bloomsburg. Letkowski is required to register as a Tier 1 offender following a prior conviction. Police say he missed the mandatory three-day update window. Charges have now been filed, and the case will be handled in Columbia County court.
HARRASSMENT CHARGES FILED AGAINST FORMER BUSH HOUSE OWNER
A dispute following a Muncy Township meeting has led to a harassment conviction. Authorities say 77-year-old Alvin “Charlie” Bush Jr. pleaded guilty after a heated exchange earlier this month involving local officials and a resident. Police say Bush confronted one man, used profanity, and briefly grabbed another by the collar during the incident. The confrontation stemmed from ongoing tensions over redevelopment plans at the former Lycoming Mall site. No injuries were reported, and the charge was filed as a summary offense.
INAUGURAL MENTAL HEALH AWARENESS MONTH
The community is invited to Williamsport’s first Mental Health Awareness Night. The free event is set for May 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Shaw Park. Hosted by Skills of Central PA and local partners, it will feature music, free food, giveaways and family-friendly activities. More than 10 mental health providers will be on hand to share resources and answer questions. Organizers say no registration is required and everyone is welcome to attend and connect with support services.
JOURNEY BANK TEEN STAR CROWNED
A Williamsport student is this year’s Teen Star champion. The annual competition, hosted by Journey Bank, crowned Jaslin Shand, a junior at Williamsport Area High School, as the winner. She was one of 14 finalists who performed at Bloomsburg University in front of judges and a packed crowd. Shand impressed with two performances to take the top spot. Organizers say the event also supports local school music programs through donations and prizes for finalists.
