POLICE SEEK A SUSPECT WHO ASSAULTED WITH A TIRE IRON

A man who allegedly struck a woman with a tire iron April 6th in Northumberland County is being sought by authorities. According to State Police at Milton a warrant for 50 year old Paul Beaver has been issued after police say he used a tire iron and closed fists to assault a woman in Delaware Township.  Beaver fled the Watsontown area after the incident, but was charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats.  Call Pennsylvania State police if you have information about his whereabouts at 570-524-2662.

MAN ARRESTED FOR CORRUPTING MORALS OF A MINOR

A 39 year old Williamsport man is facing criminal charges after police say he provided alcohol and marijuana to a 14 year old girl last May in his Loyalsock Township home.  According to the Sun Gazette, a police affidavit says Keith Boyer waived his preliminary hearing and is free on bail.  He faces charges of corrupting the moral of a minor, furnishing alcohol to a minor and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

SLOW TRAFFIC AGAIN THIS WEEK ON AREA INTERSTATES

Expect slow traffic today on I-180 as work continues eastbound and westbound in Montoursville Borough, and Loyalsock, Fairfield, and Muncy townships.  According to PennDOT, work on 180 between the Route 87 interchange and the Fairfield Road interchange starts up again today with the shoulder taken up by crews where new lighting and guide rail upgrade work is being done.  Route 15 in South Williamsport will also see construction this week with the continuation of work on ADA ramps including milling and paving, and guide rail upgrades.  Watch for single lane flaggers on the scene when work is in place for this project that will continue through October, but not during the Little League World Series.

PRESS CONFERENCE TO ADVOCATE FOR SKILL GAME TAX

Senator Gene Yaw will join supporters of legal skill video games for a press conference tomorrow, beginning at 1:30pm in the State Capitol Rotunda. Participants and guests will advocate for passage of Yaw’s legislation to establish a taxing structure on legal skill video games in the Commonwealth that could increase immediate annual tax revenue. LaVar Arrington, former Penn State and NFL player will speak along with Doug Sprankle of Miele Manufacturing, Williamsport  and chair of Pennsylvania Taverns and Players Association (PA TAP).

FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN MONTOUR COUNTY

A Danville man died in a motorcycle accident on State Route 890 in Rockefeller Township just after 3:30 pm on Friday afternoon. According to the Daily Item, 40  year old John-Paul A. Hendricks of Montour County went off the roadway on a curve while traveling south near Brush Valley Road.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and first responders’ attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. In addition to Stonington State Police, crews from the Americus Hose Company and Stonington Fire Company were on the scene.

WIFE FACES TRIAL IN 2018 MURDER OF HUSBAND

The Union County homicide trial continues this week for 77 year old Myrle Evelyn Miller who was accused of first degree murder for allegedly poisoning her husband John Nichols, who died in April of 2018.  Miller who married Nichols in 2012 is also facing accusations of draining her husband’s finances, including forging checks from his accounts and opening loans against life insurance policies. According to North Central PA dot com, Miller was previously acquitted by a jury in Montour County in 1988 of criminal attempted homicide of her first husband. Miller’s trial for these charges is expected to last into next week, and in addition to homicide, she is facing charges of insurance fraud, theft by deception, forgery, and perjury.

WEBINAR OVER AIR SPACE IN CLINTON COUNTY TODAY

A public webinar has been announced by the Maryland National Guard for Monday, April 24th, to discuss their plans to lower the flying altitude for jets training over a vulnerable area of the Pennsylvania Wilds.  According to the Record Online, the Clinton County Commissioners continue to oppose the proposal from the Guard  even after a final environmental assessment recently presented to the commissioners.  Those who want to make public comment during the webinar, must register in advance.  Find details on the Clinton County Government Facebook page.

WASD SENIOR EARNS TOP SPOT IN SKILL COMPETITION

A Williamsport Area High School Senior has earned a spot to compete in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skill Conference this summer.  According to the Sun Gazette, Elizabeth Ryder won first place at the State Championships in Hershey recently by demonstrating superior performance of entry-level skills, based on a list of core standards, as well as written and verbal skills, evaluated through skill testing stations.  She will compete in the national competition in the category for Basic Health Care in Atlanta this June.  Two other Williamsport seniors took second place in their respective categories, James Inwright for advertising design and Carter Weaver for medical math.
