TWO IN CUSTODY AFTER A STABBING IN SUNBURY

A stabbing in Sunbury Sunday is being investigated by police.  According to the Daily Item, two men have been detained after police were called to 6th and Packer Streets around 7pm for the disturbance.  The suspects, who have not yet been named since the investigation is ongoing, are in custody.  One suspect initially fled the scene by was apprehended shortly after the incident.  Both suspects suffered minor injuries from the stab wounds, but have not yet had any charges filed against them. 

STUDENT SECRETLY RECORDED PROFESSOR, ARRESTED

A 37 year old New Jersey man who attends Bloomsburg University, has been charged with secretly recording conversations with his professor, without the instructor’s knowledge. According to North Central PA dot com,  Eric Meier, alleged that Dr. Karl Henry, a Biology professor was sending “messages of hate” during class.  Meier sent emails that included the audio recordings to administrators of the school, who then contacted police about the unauthorized recordings. Meier was charged with felony communications and a preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.

US SENATE DEBATE SET

The debate between the candidates for Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey’s seat for the US Senate has been finalized for October 25th. The debate between Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman and Dr Mehmet Oz, will be held in Harrisburg and is scheduled to air across nine television stations around the state, including some stations in adjacent states, to ensure the maximum potential reach to voters. You will be able to watch the debate on WBRE & WYOU in Wilkes Barre, Scranton; and WTAJ in Altoona, State College.

ANNUAL COLLEGE NIGHT THIS THURSDAY

High school students from across the region will have the opportunity of exploring their post-graduate options, when 61 colleges and universities will converge in Williamsport, for the annual “College Night” this Thursday night sponsored by the Lycoming County Counselors Association and Lycoming College. The event will be held in the Keiper Recreation Center from 6:30 to 8:30pm and masks will be worn out an abundance of caution.  Get information at Lycoming.edu.

MAN USED DAUGHTER AS HUMAN SHIELD

A man who police say is homeless allegedly used his daughter as a human shield during a domestic disturbance at the home of his mother on West 11th Street in Bloomsburg.  According to North Central PA dot com, police say 34 year old Mark Hughes is known to them for other disturbances, and they were called to the home again August 14th.  When police arrived, they say Hughes ran to the other side of the yard where he picked up his two year old daughter while he was running away.  He was taken into custody and police were able to remove the girl from her father’s grasp. Hughes was charged with resisting arrest , disorderly conduct and other charges.

FATAL CRASH IN UNION COUNTY

A woman from Mifflinburg was involved in a fatal car crash early Sunday  in Union County.  According to State police at Milton, 31 year old Melissa Dziadzio died at he scene of the crash along Route 45 in Hartley Township.  Police say Dziadzio was heading east on Route 45 and failed to negotiate a curve near Hackenburg Road when her car went off the road striking a utility pole and then a row of trees.  NO one else was involved in the crash.

MISSING TEEN AND CHILD FOUND OK

A Loyalsock Township teen and her 8 month old child who went missing on July 31st, have been found in the Reading area. According to NorthCentral PA dot com, when Aaliyah Diaz and her 8 month old child , Nathaniel Orega Jr. were reported missing they were believed to have traveled to the Allentown area.  Family members from a residence near Randall Circle reported the pair missing. No further word on the condition of the individuals or their whereabouts have been released.

LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL REWARDED

The Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School has been honored with 296 other schools in the United States, as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School, according to the U.S. Department of Education. The school won the designation, which is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups,  with an Exemplary High-Performing School rating. The school has an enrollment of 495 students, with kindergarten through 3rd Grade students.

Chris Buescher got the checkered flag at Bristol as the 19th winner this season who is not a title contender.  
In the  Bass Pro Shops Saturday night Race, Chase Elliott was 2nd,  William Byron 3rd,  Christopher Bell 4th followed by Kyle Larson and Ross Chastain who all advance to the playoffs.
In the first elimination race of the NASCAR playoffs, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Austin Dillon, and Tyler Reddick were taken out.
