BACKYARD BROADCASTING LOCAL NEWS – August 21, 2022

All eyes have been focused on South Williamsport, since Wednesday, with the start of the Little League World Series. Today, the focus will turn to downtown Williamsport, for the unveiling of the final piece of the statue collection, which will bring special dignitaries to the area. Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura; along with the widow of baseball great, Jackie Robinson, Rachel Robinson, will be a part of the contingent that will see the unveiling and dedication in Market Square in downtown. Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred Jr., PA Governor Tom Wolf will also be in attendance for the event. With the unveiling, also means traffic detours will be put into place nearby, beginning around Noon and lasting until about 6pm, this evening.

A shootout on Friday night in Williamsport, has landed a 16 year old juvenile in trouble with the law. According to Northcentral PA dot com, the juvenile pulled a gun and shot at a man who was walking along West Edwin Street, one of the two individuals engaged in conversation with the victim and then the juvenile walked behind the victim and pulled out a firearm and fired a shot. The victim returned fire and struck the juvenile, with multiple wounds. The suspect was transported to the hospital for further treatment and was later arrested and placed into custody, with a court hearing coming for the incident.

One person is dead and three others were hospitalized on early Saturday morning, after police were called to a residence in Bloomsburg. 23 year old Edward Heckler of Audubon, Montgomery County, was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing, with no preliminary cause given to the incident.

State Police in Milton, is searching for Michael Reich, 80-year-old  described as 5 feet 8 inches, 200 lbs., Grey, Blue, wearing light colored t-shirt, dark colored t-shirt, and black cane. Reich was last seen in the area of Buffalo Valley Assisted Living Lutheran Village, on Friday night around 1000 pm. Police believe this person may be at special risk of harm or injury, or may be confused. Anyone with information on Reich is asked to contact police immediately by calling 911 or State Police in  Milton at 570-524-2662.

Clinton County officials, along with DCNR; are excited with the unveiling of a new trail option for visitors in the PA Wilds. The 11.5 mile trail was dedicated earlier this week, at Falcon Bridge, which intersects the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, between Lock Haven and Jersey Shore. DCNR awarded $334,700 in funding for the project, that also included other improvements to help make the trail, ADA accessible. The trail will now connect with the 62 mile Pine Creek Rail Trail.

Plans are underway for a benefit to help the Ronald McDonald House in Danville. A masquerade ball will take place on September 16th, at the Bush House Estate in Muncy. The black tie event, will feature dancing, dinner under the stars, a silent auction and LIVE music, and more. This year’s event is sponsored by Pennsylvania Skill and tickets for the event, can be obtained by visiting rmhdanville.org.

An inmate at the federal prison in Lewisburg, was sentenced to an additional term for having a cellphone in the prison. 51 year old Christopher Edwards, will get an additional two months added to his prison sentence, who is in jail for trafficking cocaine and cocaine base in the Easton area. In addition, Edwards will lose his phone privileges for 14 months as well.

A Bradford County man is in trouble with the law, for pretending to be the law. 18 year old Joseph Tubbs was charged with a felony, for impersonating law enforcement, false imprisonment of a minor, and other offenses. Tubbs was taken to the Bradford County Jail, before being released on $35,000 bail and will face a August 31st preliminary hearing.

IN SPORTS…

The Keystone Junior League all stars took on their nemesis from Corpus Christi, Texas in the U.S. Championship game on Saturday evening in Taylor, Michigan. Texas pulled away early with a 7 to nothing lead, before cruising on to a 12 to 4 victory. It was the second meeting between the two teams, in as many days, with Texas winning both times. Congratulations to Keystone for an amazing season.

The Williamsport Crosscutters picked up a win on the road at State College on Saturday night, winning 8 to 4. The two teams wrapup their current series with a 4:05pm first pitch, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College. The Cutters are three games back in the MLB Draft League standings, with 13 games remaining on the season.

The NASCAR world turns to Watkins Glen International Speedway for the GO BOWLING AT THE GLEN, this afternoon. Coverage on the Twin Valley’s Talk Network, gets underway at 3pm.
