Two separate incidents in Berwick and Nescopeck brought two dead and 17 injured patients to the hospital on Saturday evening. The first incident happened around 6pm, at The Intoxicology Department, a bar in Berwick; where a fundraiser was taking place for the recent fire victims in Nescopeck. One person died in that incident and that is where the bulk of the injuries came from; then, shortly afterwards, a woman was attacked with a hammer and killed in Nescopeck, with a man taken into custody. Adrian Reyes, 24, of Nescopeck, was arraigned early Sunday morning and according to WNEP TV,, was charged with two counts of murder.
An air conditioning issue at the Shamokin Area School District will allow teachers to wear t-shirts and shorts and students carry water bottles, for at least two weeks. School in the Shamokin Area School District will get underway on August 22nd.
A Centre County man lost his life, when the bucket truck he was in, touched electrical lines and was electrocuted. 19 year old Alexander Fries, died at the scene and the incident has been ruled as accidental. The incident happened on Wednesday, near Gregg Township, just East of State College.
Fire crews from three counties converged onto a fire near Elysburg, Saturday afternoon. According to media reports, there was no injuries reported. Fire crews from Northumberland, Columbia and Montour counties responded to the 2-1/2 hour blaze, that started in a yard and quickly spread to a nearby home.
A motorcyclist from Dewart remains in critical condition, after an accident Friday morning. 51 year old Raymond Hauck of Dewart, lost control of his motorcycle and fell off. The accident happened at the intersection of Route 405 and Main Street in Delaware Township, Northumberland County, around 3am. According to State Police, Hauck will be charged in the incident because he was driving with a suspended license.
State Police in Milton have arrested a White Deer Township man after performing a welfare check on Friday. That welfare check ended up getting 58 year old Walter Tyson, of New Columbia, arrested for statutory rape and sexual assault. The suspect admitted to assaulting the child over a period of 14 years, when the child was four or five years old. Tyson is locked up in the Union County Prison.
PennDOT crews in Clinton County are expected to continue their efforts, in maintaining the roads to its best. Crews will be mowing along Interstate 80, in addition to doing patching along the Hyner Road, and doing base repair work on the Little Plum Run Road, near Woolrich; and various sign repairs and upgrades to be performed. When you see PennDOT crews in your travels, please slow down and use extreme caution when passing by them.
The 16th Annual Little League World Series Grand Slam Parade will kick off tomorrow in downtown Williamsport. The parade steps off at 5:30 P.M. at the intersection of Susquehanna and West Fourth Street and proceeds east to the intersection of West Fourth and Market Streets. The downtown festival begins at 4 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to look for alternate routes during this time or schedule additional time to use detours where applicable.
Streets to be impacted with a closure or detours and times:
• West Fourth Street between Hepburn and Market streets will be closed from 2 p.m. to the end of the parade.
• Staging area at Hepburn Street to Government Place will be blocked off and monitored for pedestrian traffic only at 2 p.m.
• Vine Avenue will close completely for the staging area at 4 p.m.
• No parking on West Fourth Street between Market and Grier streets at 4 p.m.
• Fourth Street closed from Susquehanna to Rose streets at 4 p.m.
• Begin rolling street closure between Susquehanna and Hepburn streets on Fourth Street at 5:15 p.m.
• Market Street closed between Third and Fourth streets at 6 p.m.
City streets will begin to re-open as soon as the last parade entry passes through the area.
Only the section between Market and West Fourth streets will remain closed until all safety barricades are removed.
The West End Babe Ruth All Stars won their first game at the World Series, being held in Glen Allen, Virginia, winning 3 to 2, over Manassas, Virginia. The West Enders will now play Oregon, this afternoon at 1pm, before having Monday off. Then Tuesday, they will play Winchester, Virginia.
