MEDICAID WORK REQUIREMENT WORRIES Rural Pennsylvania communities are facing growing concerns over access to healthcare, especially as new Medicaid work requirements are set to take effect in 2027. Pennsylvania already includes areas called “maternity care deserts”, where hospitals lack delivery services or maternity providers. Rural areas also have far fewer primary care doctors than urban communities. Advocates warn that losing insurance coverage could force more patients to delay treatment, putting added financial pressure on rural hospitals and nonprofit healthcare providers.

WHEN GIVEN RAIN, SLIDE Rain didn’t dampen the fun at the Little League World Series complex in South Williamsport, where young fans made the most of the wet weather before the day’s games were later canceled. Kids ditched soggy cardboard and used ponchos to slide down the famous hill, splashing through puddles and picking up plenty of mud and grass along the way. Parents said the messy conditions only added to the fun, even as the rain eventually wiped out the scheduled games.
