DRONE USED IN JAIL DRUG DROP. Three people are charged after police say a drone was used in an attempt to drop suspected methamphetamine into the Northumberland County Jail yard. Coal Township police charged John Szymanski of Ranshaw, his fiancée and inmate Jeanette Zeller, and Brandan Schoeneberger with multiple felony conspiracy counts, along with additional drug and drone-related charges. Investigators say a DJI drone carrying a white powdery substance was found on the jail roof Monday, and video calls showed the trio planning the drop. Szymanski and Schoeneberger were arraigned and jailed on 25-thousand-dollars straight bail.
STEALING CHARGES MOVE TO COURT AGAINST UNION COUNTY WOMAN. All charges will move forward against a Millmont woman accused of stealing more than fifty-thousand dollars from the Mifflinburg American Legion. Following a preliminary hearing, a Union County judge ruled there is enough evidence to send the case against fifty-six-year-old Pamela Hackenburg to the Court of Common Pleas. Police say she used her role as volunteer treasurer to take money on forty-two occasions over eleven months. Hackenburg is already is serving a state prison sentence for a separate theft case in Centre County involving more than half a million dollars in stolen township funds.
HEARING MOVED TO LATE JANUARY. Talen Energy will not present its rezoning case to Montour County commissioners until late January after the company requested a delay of the Dec. 17 hearing. Talen is seeking to rezone 870 acres from agricultural to industrial for a possible data center and power plant expansion and will cover the cost of readvertising the hearing. The planning commission has already voted against the request. Commissioners say a large venue is needed to accommodate hundreds of expected attendees, and no vote will be taken the day of the hearing.
DEER SEASON IS UPON US. Pennsylvania’s statewide firearms deer season opens tomorrow and runs through December 13th, with two Sundays of hunting included — November thirtieth and December seventh — according to the Game Commission. Last season, hunters harvested nearly four-hundred-seventy-seven thousand deer statewide. Hunters also donated a record two-hundred-eighty-three thousand pounds of venison to the Hunters Sharing the Harvest program, providing more than one million meals statewide. Hunting will not be permitted in state parks on December seventh.
HOMEMADE EXPLOSIVE DEVICE IN DORM ROOM. A 19-year-old Penn College student is facing multiple charges after police say a homemade explosive device went off inside a dorm room at Lancaster Hall Tuesday. Authorities say Christopher Greenawalt of Wellsboro triggered the device just before noon, causing an explosion that scattered BBs and debris and filled the room with smoke, forcing evacuations for several hours. Investigators say Greenawalt admitted making the device from dismantled fireworks and tape, claiming he was joking. Damage is estimated at more than five-thousand dollars. He is free on fifty-thousand dollars unsecured bail and is due in court December ninth.
SELF DEFENSE CASE MOVES ON TO COURT. A Williamsport man who claims self-defense in the shooting of a 15-year-old boy will stand trial on attempted homicide and related charges. A Lycoming County judge ruled there was enough evidence to move the case against 25-year-old Zaire Jones-Wallace forward and denied a request for bail. Prosecutors say the shooting happened during a Halloween party after an argument with an ex-girlfriend, when the teen tried to intervene.
NEW LAWS OUT OF HARRISBURG. Several new laws have been signed in Pennsylvania: expanding body camera use and improving health coverage. Governor Josh Shapiro signed a measure allowing state agents with the Attorney General’s Office, Game Commission, Fish and Boat Commission, and DCNR to use body-worn cameras, with funding coming from the state Gaming Fund. Another new law expands access to breast cancer screenings and diagnostic exams for most Pennsylvanians by eliminating out-of-pocket costs for those at average risk. Lawmakers have only a few session days left this year before the Capitol goes quiet until January.
SHOPPING FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Black Friday is here with major retailers opening early for one of the busiest shopping days of the year and tomorrow is Small Business Saturday, a national push to encourage holiday shoppers to visit neighborhood stores and support local restaurants, gift shops, artisans and service providers. It’s a chance to get unique gifts and keep holiday dollars close to home. And for those hitting the road after the holiday, according to AAA gas prices in Central Pennsylvania are averaging about $3.07 a gallon.

Fuzzy Zoeller, a 10-time PGA Tour winner and one of the game’s most colorful personalities, has died at the age of 74, the PGA Tour announced Thursday. No cause of death was released.
