BUS ACCIDENT SENDS DRIVER TO HOSPITAL
A bus accident Tuesday sent one woman to the hospital in Sayre. According to the Sun Gazette, Police say the unnamed driver of the mini Best Transit bus lost control in icy conditions along Route 154 in Elkland Township. State Police in Laporte say the vehicle went over a small embankment and landed on the passenger side. The woman was treated at Robert Packer hospital, and an investigation is ongoing.
FOUR SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY FOR HELPING FOSTER CHILD ESCAPE
Four people who police say could be family members to a foster child they helped escape from her home in Trevorton. According to State police, they were called after witnesses say the group of suspects helped the 15-year old girl load her belongings in the car and traveled into New York State. Troopers say 58 year old Rosa Rodriguez and 36 year old John Kenney, both of New Windsor, NY along with two other women who assisted them, left the property with the girl. Once police contacted Rodriquez by phone, none of the suspects would tell where the girl was located. All four were apprehended and charged with felony interference with custody of children and concealment.
PENNDOT CLOSING AN I-80 REST AREA TODAY
Starting at 9am today, the restrooms at the rest area along Eastbound I-80 in Columbia County will close for maintenance until about 5pm. According to PennDOT, the comfort facilities will be closed, but the parking area will still be available while crews inspect the sewer lines of the facility. HATS FOR HEAT RAISES THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS
“Hats for Heat” the non-profit 501(c3) started by Vince Reeder and Echo Mitchell of Montoursville to provide heating oil to families in need, was bolstered by a fantastic fundraising effort by the community this past weekend at the Loyalsock Hotel in Loyalsockville. The 4th annual Hats for Heat basket raffle raised just over 71 thousand dollars during the two-day event that also featured sales of their signature hats which is what Reeder says started it all. NEW COLUMBIA MAN FACES ASSAULT CHARGES
A man from New Columbia is free on 15 thousand dollars cash bail after a domestic incident and alleged assault against another male at his girlfriend’s home January 18th. According to North Central PA dot com, 36 year old Michael Hamilton admitted to police that attempted to strangle the man, and punched him with a closed fist several times after he entered the home in White Deer Township. Police say witnesses at the scene broke up the fight and Hamilton fled. State police later apprehended Hamilton and charged him with a felony count of burglary, misdemeanor strangulation, simple assault, and more with a preliminary hearing coming up on February 28th.
CONVICTED FELON SENTENCED TO 29 TO 67 YEARS IN JAIL
A man from Lewisburg who was convicted in November of attempted homicide in Union County was sentenced to 29 to 67 years in state prison for one count of the attempted criminal homicide of Daevon Bodden and three other felonies in which he shot a firearm at his victim in June of 2020 at a home along West Market Street. The Union County district attorney said the 28 year old Gonzales had committed several felonies crimes prior to the shooting. He also faces 15 thousand dollars in court fees and fines in addition to the time at aa state correctional institution.
SUPER BOWL WEEKEND DUI PATROLS PLANNED
The Lycoming County DUI Task Force announced that they are stepping up patrols as we approach a busy weekend for football celebrations with the Eagles in the Super Bowl. According to the DUI Task force coordinator, Sgt. Robert Cochran, officers from several area police forces join the roving patrols this week through post-game Sunday. Sgt Cochran suggests that party-goers utilize designated drivers or ride-share services and to avoid even “buzzed driving” . The public is encouraged to call 911 if they see any driver on the road who is impaired so officers can respond.
CU-MANSFIELD CELEBRATES NATIONAL WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY
National Girls and Women in Sports Day is today and Mansfield Athletics will hold a women’s basketball game this evening, hosted by the Mansfield field hockey and softball teams. The Mounties will take on the Bloomsburg Huskies with a 5:30pm tip off. National Girls and Women in Sports Day is a day to recognize the female athletes and promote gender equality in sports, it’s celebrated on the first Wednesday in February. Girls ages 8 to 14 get a free admission to Decker Gym with one adult admission, along with a voucher for the concession stand for free water and popcorn.
