WEST BRINGS MORE JOBS TO LYCOMING COUNTY

One hundred twenty five new jobs are coming to Williamsport and Jersey Shore as the Williamsport Lycoming Chamber of Commerce announced yesterday the expansion of West Pharmaceutical Services Incorporated to it’s Jersey Shore Plant.  According to a news release an investment of 65 million dollars in coordination with state government will add to the 700 jobs the company already provides in Lycoming County.  Jason Fink, president and CEO of the Williamsport Lycoming Chamber of Commerce says it’s an exciting announcement and the career opportunity it provides can support families. Fink says it was a team effort at the local, county and state level to secure the expansion.

POLICE SAY AIR RIFLE MAY HAVE CAUSED DAMAGE

A Delaware Township woman called state police last Saturday about 9:30am after someone broke the glass of a window of her home on Albatross Drive.  According to State Troopers, the window was likely damaged by an air rifle, but no projectile was found at the scene beyond a shaving of metal in the glass panels of the broken window.  Police are investigating the Northumberland County incident and ask the public that if they have information about the shooting to call state police at Milton.

PRESIDENT BIDEN TO VISIT PA

Pennsylvania State Police have released a statement concerning traffic around Wilkes-Barre when President Joe Biden visits on Tuesday.  The visit coordinates with Biden’s trip to Pittsburgh for the Labor Day Holiday to attend the famed Labor Day parade one of the largest gatherings in the nation on the national holiday for workers.  State police say traffic will be affected on I-81, State Routes 115 and the Cross Valley Expressway in the afternoon and evening hours of August 6th.

POLICE TO OUT PATROLLING FOR DUI THIS WEEKEND

Area police are reminding the public to be safe and to not drink and drive this upcoming Labor Day holiday.  According to police in Montoursville, they will be out in force keeping impaired drivers from the roads.  Motorists are asked to follow the move over law when they see police vehicles along the interstate as well.  Expect to see sobriety checkpoints, and roving patrols across Lycoming County, especially in areas where there is a history of DUI related crashes. 

LOYALSOCK ACCIDENT HOSPITALIZES TWO

State police are investigating the cause of a crash that backed up traffic on East Third Street on Monday around 11am.  According to the Sun Gazette, no names have been released, but two women were hospitalized after their vehicles collided  in Loyalsock Township in front of Mid-Sate Beverage.  Emergency crews responded and township fire say a Subaru Crosstrek and a Dodge Durrango were removed from the accident scene.

PA NATIONAL GUARD SOLDIER DIES AFTER TRAINING IN SC

A 17 year old Pennsylvania National Guard Soldier, who was attending basic training with her twin sister in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, died after physical training on August 20th due to a rare heart defect.  According to a Facebook post from the 1st Battalion 34th Regiment, Private Alyssa Cahoon of Mount Pleasant, PA collapsed and was taken to an off-base hospital, where she died surrounded by her family.  Alyssa and her twin sister Brianna, were both serving as human resource specialists, both just days away from the end of their 9-week training. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Alyssa’s mother says Brianna has the same rare heart abnormality and she will now will be able to receive treatment for it.

INJURED LITTLE LEAGUE PLAYER TO RETURN TO UTAH

Easton Oliverson, the Utah Little League Player who suffered a brain injury after falling from his bunk bed at the International Grove two weeks ago in South Williamsport, will be transferred back to his home state today.  According to a social media post by his family, Easton’s remarkable progress has allowed doctors at Geisinger to release the 12 year old from Janet Weis Children’s Hospital so he can fly via medical airplane to a children’s hospital in Salt Lake City.  Doctors said Easton was admitted to the hospital August 14th with an epidural hematoma and continues making amazing strides in his recovery.  Easton’s Team, Snow Canyon Little League was eliminated from the World Series on August 21st after losing to Iowa 10-2, they went back to Utah last week.

ALCOHOL SALES BEING TESTED AT PSU THIS YEAR

Penn State is going to test selling alcohol at Beaver stadium during the 2022 Fall season.  According to the Centre Daily Times, the sale of alcohol has been under consideration, but still needs more approval before there is an official change at the venue.  At this time, there are alcohol sales allowed in enclosed suites and boxes at the stadium, but none for the general public.  At this time, there will be temporary sale of alcohol at the game against Central Michigan on September 24th.

Nittany Lions Coach James Franklin told media outlets yesterday that Sean Clifford will return as PSU’s starting quarterback, and that Drew Allar, a five star recruit from Ohio will be the 1st backup, even though Christian Veilleux has more experience.

Tennis – US OPEN
In the first round of the 2022 U.S. Open, Serena Williams defeated Danka Kovinic,
6-3, 6-3, to move on in the tournament and delay her retirement from tennis. Williams was given a post-victory serenade from television host Gayle King, and she received a celebratory Tweet from tennis legend Billie Jean King.
