FIRE DESTROYS HOME NEAR COGAN STATION
An investigation will begin today into the fire that destroyed a vacation home on Rock Run Road near Cogan Station last night around 6:30 pm. According to the Sun Gazette, the 2-story home, owned by David Moore of Baltimore burned out of control for about 2 hours and witnesses could see the glow of the fire from Route 15 near Hepburnville. The volunteers who responded to the three-alarm fire pulled water from Lycoming Creek along 973 west to fight the fire. A State Police Fire Marshall will be on the scene there today.
BALLOT COUNT STILL UNDERWAY IN MONTGOMERY
Many are anxious to receive results from the most recent municipal election in Lycoming County. The Sun Gazette reports that Lycoming County Voter services is in the midst of the official count of the race for Montgomery Mayor which includes accurately checking and re-checking all the ballots cast from Election Day 2019. Unofficial results tabulated 91 votes for mayoral candidate Sean Leet, and 116 write in votes. An official count verification can take 10 to 15 days to be complete.
MANUFACTURING FOCUS AFTER LAWMAKERS TOUR COLLEGE
State policy makers toured Pennsylvania College of Technology yesterday and will go forward focusing on public policies that strengthen the manufacturing community in the commonwealth. Speaker Mike Turzai, of the state House of Representatives plus other elected officials toured the campus with Penn College president Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour. Welding facilities at the College were recently expanded to include plasma and laser cutters, as well as a robotic welding lab and support the training and education of students who are in high demand in the state’s manufacturing jobs.
POLICE ACTIVITY CLOSES ROAD FRIDAY MORNING
The police activity that was scheduled to close a portion of Route 42 between the Sullivan and Lycoming county line was postponed until today. According to PennDOT the closure on Rt 42 between Janet Hock Road in Davidson Township, Sullivan County and Mountain Road in Penn Township, Lycoming County will start around 8:00 a.m. and will take approximately four hours to complete. A detour will be in place using Routes 118 and 220.
ALLEGED METH DEALER EILL ANSWER TO DRUG CHARGES
In a drug deal originally arranged on Facebook, police say a confidential informant bought methamphetamine from a woman in her Montgomery Borough home earlier this year. According to court reports, 2 controlled purchases took place between Tiffany M. Sellers and the informant reportedly totaling $380 worth of the drug. Police say the incidents took place in January of 2019 with charges filed in Lycoming County court earlier this month. According to North Central Pa dot com, Sellers was arraigned and held for at least six drug counts. A judge set straight bail at 90 thousand dollars, and will have a preliminary hearing before President Judge Nancy L. Butts on December 2nd.
BLOOMSBURG MAN FOUND GUILTY ON FEDERAL PORN CHARGES
A Bloomsburg man is being detained in the custody of US Marshalls waiting to be sentenced for federal child pornography charges after being convicted last week in US District Court in Williamsport. According to North Central PA dot com, evidence was presented that accused 43 year old David Dewald, of trying to persuade female minors to send sexually explicit photographs to him and meet for sexual purposes between July 2015 and May 2016. The jury in the 5 day trial deliberated over 2 hours and found Dewald guilty of all charges on November 8th. The maximum penalty under federal law for the offenses, include life imprisonment, and a term of supervised release following imprisonment and a fine.
FUEL ASSISTANCE FOR 7 COUNTIES
There will be fuel assistance available for residents in Columbia, Juniata, Mifflin, Montour, Perry, Snyder, and Union counties thanks to the SEDA-Council of Governments Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. They will also repair a malfunctioning heating unit at no cost until April 10. There are family income guidelines to receive help; For example, a family of four income level is required to be below 39 thousand to receive assistance.
RENOVATION FUNDING BID ACCEPTED
Mirroring the process of taking construction project bids, the Muncy Township Supervisors also bid out the financing portion of the upcoming $2 million municipal building renovation project. The contract was awarded to C&N bank who offered a 3.29 percent fixed rate for 15 years and a 30-year mortgage for the building. The supervisors approved the bid and plan to offset the costs through grant funding . They say the almost 25 year old building will receive extensive plumbing, electrical and mechanical updates.
