FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY AREA

With a flash flood watch in effect for some counties in our area, Lycoming County can expect heavy rain and thunderstorms specifically this afternoon through Tuesday.  The National Weather Service in State College reports that conditions are right for flash flooding south of Williamsport in Union, Northumberland, Northern Cnter, Snyder and Mifflin Counties.  The Sun -Gazette reports there’s a 50 percent chance of rain for the next 8 to 10 days.

INMATE TRIES TO BEAT DRUG TEST

An inmate at the Northumberland County Prison is facing new charges after the District Attorney there says she provided at false urine sample during a scheduled drug test at the county probation office last week.  Twenty six year old Alexis Wagner admitted she used drugs 5 days earlier and provided a false sample.  The probation officer heard an object fall into the toilet while Wagner was in the lavatory which garnered suspicion.  WKOK reports a preliminary hearing should take place within the next week.

TREE FALLS ON FOUR VEHICLES

A huge tree that looked healthy split and fell on several cars at a local wedding venue recently.  The Sun Gazette reports no one was injured when a 100 foot tree split at its’ lower quarter and crushed four cars parked at the Bush House estate along S. Lycoming Mall road.  Wedding guests said they heard the tree cracking before it fell.

AIRPORT PAVING PROJECT ALMOST COMPLETE

The paving project at the Williamsport Regional Airport is completed and there’s a final inspection scheduled for June 24th.  Thomas Hart, executive director of the facility, told the Sun Gazette that there are just a few finishing touches left to complete the project including the installation of a passenger loading bridge, markings and new signage.

SOUTHSIDE MAN CHARGED WITH LEAVING BABY IN CAR

Witnesses said a South Williamsport man completely forgot about the baby in his car while he was playing pool at a local tavern.  Court records say Abhishek Patel was charged with several counts of endangering the welfare of a child after leaving his 10-month old child unattended inside his car while it was parked at the Hughesville Uni-mart for about 20 minutes.  According to northcentral PA dot com Lycoming County Children and Youth Services returned the child to the mother.  Patel is in Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 35 thousand dollars bail.

COGAN STATION MAN COMMITS SUICIDE

Police responded to reports of a suicide in Lycoming County in Lewis Township Sunday.  State Police investigating the incident found a known 51-year old Cogan Station man deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at an area between Bobst Mountain Road and Upper Bobst Mountain Road.  The time of the incident was allegedly between 1am and 8am early Sunday morning.  The Trout Run Fire Department and Lycoming County Coroner assisted at the scene.

BRIDGE TO BE REPLACED THIS SUMMER

There’s a bridge replacement project beginning today on Routh 220 just south of the intersection with Route 87 in Cherry Township in Sullivan County.  PennDOT reports that work will include the replacement of the existing bridge, paving, guide rail upgrades and new pavement markings and signs.  There will be a detour in place along Old Bernice Road, Route 487 and Route 87.  The project should be complete in Mid-August.

Gary Woodland won the US Open yesterday – sinking a 30 foot birdie-putt finishing at 2-under 69.  The lowest 72-hole score in six US Opens at Pebble Beach.
